Technothlon

It was 2003 when a small group of students decided to conduct an examination that would be way different from the traditional examinations. They laid the foundation of an exam that requires no mugging up and no coaching but an exam which tests the logical skills of the student. The first edition of Technothlon was conducted successfully in 2004 with a participation of 200 students from Guwahati. Ever since then a small group of sophomores are selected every year as Techno Heads, who are not only given the responsibility of conducting Technothlon next year but also to make it bigger and better in the process. They are the ones who spearhead a team of some 45 freshers with one final goal- an edition of Technothlon bigger and better than ever.
The journey to achieve your goal is not easy at all. It requires a lot of dedication and hard work to achieve what you desire. This blog is meant to give you a glimpse into the minds of the T’19 heads- Karthik Ganne(SOUTH ZONE), Milan Rayat(NORTH ZONE), P. Suhas(SOUTH ZONE), Vaibhav Singh(CENTRAL ZONE), Aniruddh Bakshi(WEST ZONE), Sparsh Dutta(EAST ZONE) by means of a few questions. Apart from this, the additional responsibilities that these people hold are- Karthik Ganne(Public Relations Head+ L.E.D), Milan Rayat(Literary Head+International), P. Suhas(Questions + Online Coordinator), Vaibhav Singh(Question Paper Head), Aniruddh Bakshi(Overall coordinator), Sparsh Dutta(Online head).

How does being the Head feel after a year of work as a core team member?
Sparsh:
It feels tiresome but awesome at the same time. Being the Head of such a massive event sure does have its perks. A lot many people know you, you guide a team of over 40 people and you get to work a lot in your specific domain. Although it needs time and has its own stressful days. Nevertheless, the journey is still going amazing and I wish that this Technothlon be the epitome of all.
Milan: Being a core team member is a way different from being a team member both in terms of work and responsibilities. There were times when I had felt low and things didn’t work out in the way we six of us planned, but eventually, this is what makes us take decisions more carefully and rationally and bringing the best out us and techno.
Aniruddh: It’s surely a feeling of great responsibility and pride at the same time. Conducting an exam all over the country and internationally at such age clearly brings the best out of us. People see you with great respect and when parents of participants talk to us like that then there remains no control over our joy and happiness. They praise us for doing such a nice job for the young generation. Managing a large team at the same time isn’t a piece of cake. We have to put a lot of efforts and have to manage a lot of things simultaneously, this is all I am enjoying as HEAD OF TECHNOTHLON’19.
Suhas: Being a team member in my first year, I just used to follow the leadership of the team and work according to their decisions. But becoming the Head made me realize the other side of the coin of taking decisions and inspiring people. Although it was difficult at times to balance everyday life with the responsibilities of the position, overall the experience helped me learn a lot about myself and my leadership style. The best part of the role for me was having the opportunity to meet and interact with some amazing people across the college community that I would never have had the chance to if not for the position.

What are the new things happening in Technothlon 2019?
Suhas:
Technothlon has been well known for its interesting question paper. We are experimenting on it to make the structure of the paper more interesting and to include various levels of questions which would test only logic among various types of students. We hope that this year’s QP would be a feast to the logical minds in the country.
Milan: As Technothlon has already been conducted internationally, this year we are trying to improve our international outreach so that we will be able to conduct techno at a large scale and make our presence felt at the international level.
Aniruddh: We have introduced probably the most loving thing right now, AVENGERS as the Theme for Hauts Question Paper. Juniors don't get disappointed we also have a magical ride in store for you that will take you to the land of Alladin.

What do you think differentiates Technothlon from other exams happening in the country?
Vaibhav:
Technothlon is a complete student organised examination and you need to think in exams rather than mugging up some formulas and remembering facts, it's more to test your logic and presence of mind that most of the exams don't.
Karthik: Technothlon is being conducted since 2004, the reason for it being successful since then is due to its uniqueness. Technothlon tests the logic, decision making, teamwork, coordination skills and it makes student to think out of the box. I don't think that any other exam tests these many skills in the duration of two and a half hours. This is the reason why Technothlon is the largest logic based competitive exam.
Milan: Technothlon is India’s biggest exam conducted by the student fraternity and there is a team of around 45 people that work throughout the year to make an examination that not just test their logical skills but also give them the fun to solve the exam with their friend. Not just the written exam the Mains events are something that makes their stay memorable at IIT Guwahati.

What do you think, you’ve learned from your experience as the Technothlon head so far?
Vaibhav:
There were many things that I gained throughout my journeys like its increased my social interaction and speaking skills and also organising an event at this large scale with a big team developed teamwork and skills to handle a large team.
Karthik: Most importantly time management and my communication skills, since I got to speak with many officials. Managing and convincing people since everyone has their own strengths all they need is a small momentum to start the work. I got a good platform to showcase and improve my skills.
Suhas: As I transitioned into being more of a Head, I learned how to confront the problems and even share them. The nature of the role forced me to learn how to plan and coordinate a busy life successfully, a skill I’m sure will benefit me in the years to come.
Sparsh: Being the online head I have learned a lot about development and my coding skills have improved as well. And also the management skills are improving as well as the tenure continues.

Your advice to the team and the upcoming generations.
Milan: Whatever Technothlon has achieved till now is just because of the team that it gets year after year. As there is a lot of freedom in the working of Technothlon I would suggest the upcoming generations to never stop looking for ideas that will make Technothlon stands out the rest of the series of other examinations.
Vaibhav: Try to make a proper schedule and timetable and to stick to that, never underestimate yourself interact with other team members if you are facing any problem taking advice from your teammates never harm.
Karthik: Working as an individual is up to us, it just depends only on our skills but working as a team is what we need to learn during these four years. Learn from the mistakes and don’t try to repeat them which happened with your seniors. It’s the team which makes Technothlon complete so should be responsible for the work given. If a single person can’t accomplish the work given to him/her, it will result in a negative impact on the whole team.

That's all from the heads
